I had a chance to meet with Targus this month and received an overview of their new accessory line for the iPod. This line includes leather Slide Case, leather Flip Case, a remote control and a sound enhancer.

We’ve had a chance to use the cases for awhile now and have found both to be better then previous offerings. While we prefer the flip case, which allows the product to flip down from the belt loop to see the display, both cases did a good job of protecting the iPod from most types of damage. Leather quality was good and the overall look showcased what appears to be an excellent design.

We weren’t able to use RemoteTunes ourselves for any length of time but did see a pre-production prototype. The RF remote which allows for control between rooms would be an excellent choice for those who are using their iPods in their home music systems and the device includes a stand and cables for that use.

SoundUP both enhances sound from your iPod and was actually rather impressive in use. As with RemoteTunes, we haven’t been able to test this outside of the demonstration we had, but the sound was much richer using the device then without it. One unique feature was the ability to dock another device on top of SoundUP so you could use it with other connected accessories.

The cases are $30, the remote control $60 and the Sound enhancer is $40. All would make nice gifts for someone who has an iPod. Be careful though, as the cases are size matched and you need to make sure you get the right case otherwise it won’t fit. More information can be found at: www.targus.com
